Interesting theory. I think, overall, it would work.

If I may, there's one small detail I'd like to disagree with you on.

I don't believe that Gigabyte was divided EQUALLY into Hex and Megs. I believe that hex represents the flight abilities, transfinite power limits, energy absorbing abilities and other such superpowers that Kilobyte would have gained by upgrading to Gigabyte. Megabyte, on the other hand, represents a halfway point between Kilobyte and Gigabyte. Kilobyte's viral upgrade was skipping a generation, remember.

Since Hex represents a more selective division of code, randomly separated from Gigabyte, the code was incomplete and fragmented. Hence, Hex's mental illness and her changing of unmoving faces.

On the other hand, Megabyte is a complete, whole virus and represents a more natural state along Kilobyte's upgrade ladder. If you recall from "Infected", Megabyte said he hadn't felt so good since his first infection. He must have been referring to an infection that Kilobyte performed. Megabyte, perhaps, retained memories dating back to before his upgrade, when he was still Kilobyte.

    Make sense?

Your theory makes total sense, and I'm a bit upset to learn it may not get incorporated. Unless of course the Arrival team decides to introduce Welman as a regenerated sprite in this comic and leave the viewers guessing how that happened, which could tie in via flashbacks of the Hunt or some other method. It would be very awesome to see the man finally get his body back. How many nulls ever get this opportunity to live again? He's so close, though I wonder if it's okay to say that he's strong enough to live on the way he is, as some crippled people live very full lives, fuller than many, and he does have a functioning body and mind.

Also agreeing with Starbat on that partial-code point. Partial, yes, but I don't believe 50/50 either. The more I knew about the two viruses pasts, the more I thought of Megabyte as a true virus minus hand-me-down powers, and Hexadecimal more as the limitless powers gone sentient. When Killabyte skipped a generation to upgrade, I don't think we'd have seen Megabyte as we knew him from Seasons 1&2 at first. I don't think Killabyte would have split up into these two for Gen. 2.

Part of me has been thinking that Hex's code even traveled through the Web to get rid of Daemon's infection (remember they said she controlled some of the Web as well). If that is so, it's possible it passed through and merged with Megabyte's degraded code, possibly making him into the Trojan horse virus, possibly the skipped generation we never got to see.

Another theory on my end. ^^

I agree with everything you said Divineroseboot, good theory! Except maybe the part with the accident... If they get some of Megabyte's code to restore Welman, I hope they'll do it on purpose. Maybe Phong will come up with this all new theory and after getting Enzo free, Dot will want to get Megabyte's code to restore her father. Everybody would be against it of course, it's too dangerous. But Dot would be in a stubborn format again, so she'll try to go unnoticed. Bob would catch her leaving and go with her (we can't let her face Megabyte alone, can we?)

''And with the story direction changing, I doubt there will be anyone able to attempt to bring Welman back to full spritehood, unless someone at some future date finds some other way to pull it off.''

Well just remember, it can still happen. The comic won't necessarily determine the direction the films take. It's likely they'll influence it, but I'd say Welman being brought back still has a good chance of happening. I certainly want it to happen.

I too agree they should bring Welman back as well. It would be interesting to see how those like Bob and AndrAla would react.
