WhizzyWig here. Only 4 days left in this contest and finally things are cooling off. Thank the User - I haven't been this obsessed with an online community site in my entire life. I'll be pretty glad when it's over, no word of a lie.

Just so you know, I and the Arrival team (smartens, On-FireWire, and myself) have decided that a V4 is unnecessary - we're good to go on V3, and you guys seem to be as well.

Even so, I'll be hanging around here and on various external forums once this whole thing finishes up. That said, Both I and smartens will be taking a serious break from our online activities for 1 week starting this Sunday. This has been un inbelievably hectic month.

The winner will be announced at the Fan Expo (I don't know what day) so I'll be back online then to talk about the result...

I'm sort of doing this just for fun because I guess I can't make official pitches or try to push to create an original pitch to compete with the top 5. Anyway, here goes...

First of all, I'm ignoring the fourth season as I regard only the first three complete seasons as Canon, so the last event that I consider that has been recorded is that Bob was brought back from the Net, the viruses were defeated, and Mainframe rebooted.

Some time has passed since Mainframe rebooted, and it has since established itself as among the best guarded systems, with Guardians Bob and Matrix more than handling any game the user sends their way. While the Guardians keep Mainframe safe, Phong and Dot have developed an air-tight system for surfing the web for new frontiers to explore.

Upon discovering a system on the verge of complete nullification, Matrix and AndrAIa leave Mainframe in an attempt to nurse this new system back to functionality and find an able-bod...

Lar Desouza is one heck of an artist. He does a number of web comics - Least I Could Do and Looking for Group - and he has a site full of his good stuff (Hope these links work. If not, back to the edit function.)

Lar is also a longtime 'Booter and is responsible for my being on this site today. He's the one who got me into ReBoot, first by sending me seasons 1 and 2 on tape, then, when I visited him, making me and my friends watch all of Season 3 in 3 days. Oh, he force-fed it to us! (Me: "What happens next?! Put in the next tape!!")

Enzo was trapped. Not in a cage but in his own processor, surrounded by the darkness. Enzo could barely fight off the encroaching darkness and only when the Avatar code let its guard down could he for a few precious nanos could he take control. Gnosis would the retake control and Enzo would submerge into the pool of darkness, unable to control his own body. Each time this happened Enzo would drift farther and farther into the darkness and lose consciousness.

Dot felt her knees go week. Enzo was facing Bob, with black claws extending from his fingertips, similar to AndrAIa's retractable nails. A barrier, produced by Glitch separated the two keeping the two Guardians separated. Tears started to roll slowly down Dot's cheeks.

"Enzo..." Enzo flinched and for a few nanos, his eyes turned back to their normal purple shade. "Help..." Enzo started to say but then his eyes turned dull and struck at Bob's shield. Sparks flew off the barrier,...

Okay. I too work on a Mac and without the spacing for conversation; this fanfic is under one page in Word, my shortest story ever. The document is giving me trouble pasting in too.

I call the story The Promise.

I definately don't have the time to go and draw comic pages, but I do have the time to write a 1-page fanfic scene for Arrival! :D

Yesterday I posted a scene from Prof. WW's Awesome Contest Mark II.  Just to see how it'd turn out I converted the scene to screenplay format. That allows for more scenic description in a small space, but doesn't let you get into characters' heads as much.

EXTERIOR - GAME CUBE, NIGHT

Seen from the ground, it is a dark and stormy night. Lightning flashes through storm clouds, which are purplish and staticky. A city-sized zeppelin flies into frame, soon taking up the entire frame. On the zeppelin is the design of a chess knight with wings.

DISSOLVE TO:

Inside the zeppelin, the scene is one of a battle just finished. Giant insect bodies of a uniform, mantislike type litter the corridor. Some are still quivering. The corridor itself is outfitted in heavy steampunk style: rivets, tiny flashing bulbs, dials with needle indicators, cables and pipes, thick burnished ...

I'm blogging this for my nephew who has been involved in voting but isn't writing anything of his own. He is a big game fanatic who plays online via his computer and his PS3.

Well I like to write and I wrote a one page story for the contest. Here it is:

Lens stood there with a smug look on his face. He had just ratted out the Codemasters and he was ecstatic.

"What in the Net is wrong with you?" Ether asked with anger filling her whole body. "We were so close to getting what we wanted and you had to go and screw it all up!" Lens started to laugh a hideous laugh that only a Codemaster could muster up.

"It was fun." The Codemaster replied.

"FUN?! Is this just a game for you? Did that game the Guardian drag you into warp your mind?" Ether asked.
"Oh forget the games! This is so much more fun! Besides, I was made an offer I couldn't refuse." Lens said with a smirk lighting up his face. "Soon the Net will be mine... along with the Web..."

I think I may have to go back to just sketching his head concepts first, then attaching it to the costume I came up with.  It's hard to 'sketch' on my tablet, kindasorta. DX

 Didn't put any color on him yet... I would like to have a few more concepts to pick from line-art wise before choosing colors.  That's the next step.

 What do you think?  I went for a slightly 'animal' facial design.  Sorry for givin' him a girly hairstyle.  (I can't wait for him to meet Mike... who'll mistake him for a woman. XD)

Well, it's been a few days since I've done anything, (I blame real life, work, and start of school today.)  But I've been trying to work on those Vector character designs whenever I can!  I'm finding 'inking' on Photoshop is a little harder than I expected, even with a tablet.  D:  (So I may have to go for a 'sketchier' approach.)

 But, I feel I should at least show what I've been up to.

So far, this is just a pencil sketch.  No head because I plan on experimenting with facial designs, and I saved the base 'naked' sketch in case I backpedal for 'less' clothes.  I plan on messing around with details in the outfit here and there, (thanks to the magic that is Photoshop and a tablet.)

Though I should mention that while I'm imagining the various characters to look like their concept art, there isn't an official concept for Avatar Enzo, and I've gone with RandomEXplosion's concept because I think it looks awesome. So thank you RandomEXplosion for drawing that!

     It was a dark and stormy night. Seen through the windows of the city-sized Lupenbach Airship, lightning arced through dramatically roiling clouds. Inside, it was hardly calmer.

     Matrix, still holding Gun ready to fire, looked up and down a corridor that was littered with giant slaver insect carcasses. "AndrAIa.  Anything?"

     She listened for a moment, then said, "We fought off all the bugs in this section, but I hear breathing.  There." She pointed at a hatch with the barrel of her Death-O-Matic 9000.

     Matrix led the way with Gun.  Inside, a dark-colored young man huddled against the wall, holding his side, his face tightened in pain. Energy seeped between his fingers. Looking at Gun, he said, "I'...

This is my idea for the Arrival story on how to retrieve the sprite code from Gnosis' Avatars.

Sprite Code Containment System ('SCCS'  prounounced 'six'.)  Created from the Game Code Sampler by Phong and Dr. Welman Matrix.

SCCS are small spherical projectiles that on impact with an Avatar, flatten intoa disc.  There are two lights on it, red-empty and green-contained.  When the light goes green the sprite code is contained, and the Avatar body dissapates.

SCCS are deployed by a SCCS-Gun, SCCS-Shooter, Gatling-SCCS and SCCS-Bomb.

SCCS-Gun is a handheld blaster-like device that uses refillable clips.  Extra clips can be stored on a utility belt worn by the shooters.  There are two settings:  Single Shot and Scatter Shot.

Gatling-SCCS are mounted units that can rain down SCCS on an approaching hoard.&...

Well the Expo is soon! Looks like Arrival will most likely win at this point from all of the things I've seen on this site. It's been fun doing all this though! Heh.

I am still hoping that Rainmaker asks Gavin Blair to do the movies during the Expo, it would just be very weird if they don't get Gavin and Ian to write the movies.

Good luck to Arrival doing the Web-Comic though! And here's hoping that Gavin and Ian come back!

Well it's Monday here and there's no sign of life from the Version 2.0 team. As I said I would, I'm giving up any hope for that pitch coming close to winning the comic contest...

I have final exams and interviews all week, graduation, and then I'm on a plane back to Toronto, so even if V2.0 were to roar to life this week I won't have the time for it anyway.

So I just thought I'd say thanks to everyone who liked my ideas and artwork over the last few weeks, (if I had a scanner here I could have done so much more) and to everyone else who supported 2.0. Have fun at the Expo thingy, and try not to take this too seriously.

One of the things that a few people seem to not like about the last User is the fact that their favorite characters are old.  The actuall topic of characters aging causes alot of fans to get upset. But I would like to point out something: They live inside a computer, and sometimes programs cannot be updated anymore.

So here is an idea. Something could happen to prevent them from aging to a certain point as a result of an infection, that way Enzo can grow up but stop from getting too old. This actually can happen in computer programs, which usually causes the User to delete programs. Hex's gift could protect the characters from deletion.

We don't really know how far Data Sprites will age. But since they live in a virtual environment there are alot things that could keep them from becoming old programs and obsolete.

EXT. STARTING GROUNDS - DUSK

A recently-rebooted Matrix, AndrAIa and Ether stand silently in a wilderness setting, as they each go over the details of their new forms (as well as their newly-gained usernames). Matrix (now resembling a futuristic soldier) fiddles with Gun, as the two girls notice their surprisingly form-fitting outfits.

A flock of strangely out-of-place tropical birds fly overhead, as the colorless moon begins to rise over the barren area. Numerous other characters run rampantly around, gesturing to each other in various ways.

Now, we know that the team of Matrix and AndrAIa (and Ether?) head into the Web to enter the Web Game, in order to 'free' the user. However, we haven't recieved much information past that, so I thought I'd give my ideas on what this massive, cross-system game would be like.

Entrance

I haven't the foggiest how the team manages to get into this Web Game, nor how they manage to get through the Web without degrading (I doubt they'd pull the same 'Web-Shield' idea out of their pockets). So here's the way I personally see it - the Guardians, before the takeover of the Supercomputer, simply lended the team a Web-safe ship. Super-special-creative, M I RITE???

As for the external appearance of this world, I imagine it looking somewhat similar, texture-wise, to a Game Cube (or ROM *cough*), except much, much, MUCH larger, and in a spherical shape - almost like an entire Game PLANET.

I do like the mystery that is the character Vector. It's created some interesting submissions for his character design.

  In the episode "Talent Night" the characters twice refer to it as Enzo's first birthday.  All well and good as a plot point... except that, since he is turning 10, it is clearly his second.  This is corroborated by the flashbacks in Daemon Rising in which we see him aged 00.

  To explain this odd discrepancy, we must first consider just how important an event a sprite's first birthday is.  Sprites' birthdays come only one-fifth as [relatively] frequently as Users', and are consequently five times as big a deal.  A birthday is always more important to a child than it is to an adult.  And a sprite's first birthday comes when s/he is old enough to be properly aware of it.  Put those facts together, and you get a truly enormous event in any child's life.

  Now, let us return to the Daemon Rising flashbacks.  Here is little Enzo, still aged 00 but...

On Saturday, there will be a 1 hour Q&A session (2:00pm Room 715A) with Gavin as he talks about the production of ReBoot and the early days of CGI and Mainframe Entertainment. This is a must-attend panel for all ReBoot and CGI animation fans!

Well, I'm no great shakes at drawing, so I was filled with unholy glee when Smartens posted the AndrAIa lineart over here: http://live.zeros2heroes.com/component/option,com_myblog/show,Arrival-V3-AndrAla-Line-Art.html/Itemid,107/ for people to edit.

 Now, while I'm even less skilled at Photoshop than I am at drawing, I do like to make things colourful. So I printed the lineart off, traced it, made a few edits, and coloured it in with pencils. The result is below:

 Changes made: expression, (copied from WeBViRuS) thicker legs, thicker arms, starfish, earrings, necklace, Gamesprite icon, (kept the Guardian one there in case it's there due to plotdevicium) freckles, fingernails.

And now I think I'm going to go paint some models to make myself feel better for failing at shading... <...

Hey gang. Professor WhizzyWig here. We're all feeling really good about the recent response to our V3. Finally, it feels like we're not just the least of the five evils. :)

A lot of people have expressed their satisfaction withthe script. This means so much to me since my true love is writing stories - not pitches. Some people have asked us to make a new sequential using the script, just as we did for the V1 script.

Sadly, we won't have time for that. We only have one artist (smartens) and he's super busy on all kinds of stuff right now. But there are lots of fans out there with some real talent... so why not take my 3-page script and do it as a comic book? Post it on a blog so everyone can see!

I'll do one better - for everyone that manages to get a comic version of the script up by next Sunday...

REBOOT: THE LAST USER - Fan Upgrade

Since I was having fun with the 2.0 redeco, I thought I'd try a real challenge! Can I make a Last User remake that'd appeal to the fans? Comment and say if it works!

TAGLINE: God Needs Your Help.

CONCEPT

A few years into your future. Something has gone very wrong.

A virus is killing humanity. Civilisation has been abandoned for underground bunkers, and the global computer system continues to run itself. A desperate last stand is made: a benign computer virus is uploaded into the Internet in the hope of infecting it and turning it into a way of decoding an antidote to the cure.

That is the back story, but it shall never be outright stated or known to the characters. All they know is that the User is gone. The Systems have been abandoned, serving as dusty mausoleums for a way of life that once was. The Web has been coloni...

So, this is something I thought I made just for fun, but then I decided to upload that Enzo half for the avatar Enzo. It may be a little too much (red eyes? I dunno...?) but since Hex has done something to Enzo's icon and he turns into an avatar only partialy thanks to that, I thought that her influence could be visible, so I added that golden (Hex like) lining.

I am not gonna uploadthis Matrix however, cause it isn't really what I would want him to wear, nothing special, just for fun.

I'd also like to mention that I've just noticed a slight resamblance of Enzo's head with ASlightGlitch's design (shaved head with red numbers). It's just a coincidence but I find it interesting that we had sort of similar idea on where to place those numbers.

Ok, I hope u'll enjoy it! I am probably going to make some Vector or Mainframe sketches next, I hope. :)

ISSUE ONE

The Introduction - sets up our leads, our plot and our tone.

Page 1: The story opens immediately with Serenity about to reformat another Old Frame Sector. We show the contrast between Serenity and Old Frame, and show Uncle Bill giving a friendly message about the wonders of Serenity. There's a protest march in the Sector, and someone's vandalised Vid-Windows showing pro-Serenity messages (this would be one panel). Mickey the TV is reporting on it, and blatantly trying to make the marchers seem dangerous and wrong-headed. We can have some fun with the marchers' signs, one of which says "THE MAN BEHIND ME CAN&...

For 17 computer years

I think that's the thing I hate the most about this pitch, sorry to start with that. I just don't want to see Bob and Dot old, never ever! I want them to be young, strong, beautiful, in love, everything they are actually in fact. And if we choose this pitch, there will no more chance to see them young again...

Megabyte has ruled, his wife Dot and teenage daughter Bit by his side. But all is not as it seems. Dot is secretly planning to overthrow Megabyte - plans that involve the unknowing Bit.

Good thing, Dot has a plan! But what has she doing during those 17 years? Dot usually comes up with plans quicker than that.

Megabyte discovers Dot's treachery and imprisons her

She wasn't imprisoned before? I think that Megabyte would have known that Dot would try something and he would have imprisoned her from the start.

In computer terms, I see Vector as the little bug that sometimes freezes a program temporary. That's why inside the computer, I see him as a sprite made out of ice. Here I chose a texture closer to diamond to make sure he doesn't look like he's about to break or melt. He would be transparent with an ice-blue hue, so you can see through him. Or maybe we could see his "organs" or whatever he is made of, like some glassfish? When he touches someone, you can see a chill pass from him to that person and mist forming around his hand like when you're breathing in a cold place. When he touches someone with his hand, he can make that person accept what he's saying like some kind of hypnotizer. However, it mostly just makes the person take down his guards, someone who has a strong will can still resist him. He could make a user freeze for a short period of time.

Bob to Matrix: "Don't let him touch you."

Matrix: "Like I would!...

Your Last Guardian Team 

So we started with Bob. Makes sense, right? Of course. Who's next? Well Dot, of course. What else did you expect?

Dot:

Her look:

Ok, so we all know Dot as the busy business woman who's always a step ahead and can make a plan for any occasion. She's the command.com of the system; she oversees anything like public works, and just generally monitors the health of Mainframe. Day-to-day management. That was why she looked like she did; no long hair to maintain, no flashy outfit, just form and function. We knew she was female, but she didn't wear cloths that paraded this around. (Yes, I know there was the one time she wore the dress. One time, folks.)

From this, Arrival has had some trouble updating the look. Its understandable, too; Dot was really all about clothes, not uniforms, so they didn't have one set point to work from. But that said, V2b is probably about as close as they're going to get. The b...

I'm not going to go through a point-by-point outline of fan issues with this pitch, because I don't think there's a hope in hell of The Last User being picked for the Reboot comic or anything officially Reboot.

Instead, what I suggest is that the TLU Team cut what few ties the pitch has to Reboot and try launching it as an indie press/small press comic.

Despite what the majority here have said about the style of art, it would fit right in in the small press comic industry. Take a look at titles such as 30 Days of Night, and Singularity 7: rough splashes of ink and paint almost to the point of abstraction. The Last User is somewhere between that and Picasso. The Enzo/Phong/Mouse/Megabyte faces would have to change, and the Reboot icon removed or replaced, but otherwise I see no reason not to press on.

The story and script are good as-is, and Reboot doesn't own the concept of living in a compute...

Okay, I've finished my rendition of Vector. I guess he turned out looking more menacing than I intended. I was going for sprite-like, but robotic. I figure a virus, even a benign virus, as an intruder to asystem, should look unnatural somehow. So, I thought a virus should look robotic, at least to some extent.

I put my design for Spy in the picture too. Prof WW suggested thatSpy could be Vector's familiar. I figure that Spy is not evil so much as he just doesn't know any better and fell into a bad crowd, much like Hack and Slash with Megabyte. Same thing with the whole comic relief too.

By the way, notice the blue pattern that occurs a number of times on Vector's body; on his chest, shoulder pads, forehead.  That's supposed to be Vector's equivalent to Megabyte...

I've designed this version of Bob with his left side using colour suggesting his old guardian uniform and the right side of "Alien-Glitch" look. His upgrade comes from the combination of these two forms and power.

Okay just to make things clear: This is not another Andraia! I don't think my idea made it to the final pitch but if Prof. W works in Rainmaker, I will send it to him.

Ayumi in my mind has always been a strong character.  

Ayumi from my original ideas was always her own person before Enzo's love. If Prof W decides Ayumi can be put in the comic, Ayumi and Enzo's future relationship can be hinted at subtle kind of like how Harry met Ginny in JKR's first book. She works with Bob and Dot with the resistence and helps guide them to the Info Data Characters.

Her attitude is similar to DH Ginny, especially ch 31, pg 624.  She is also stubborn. Again I don't know if my idea made the cut, but this is how Enzo will meet Ayumi:

After Enzo is turned into an Avatar, he is given two missions: to kill Bob and to kidnap an info Data sprite so that the Avatars can use him or her to gain User access. Enzo with a group of Avatars, lay siege ...

I want to finish explaining what I didn't like about the other pitches.

But I changed my mind. I like this pitch more then The LastGuardian. However I have a major bugaboo with the concept.

They blew up Mainframe.

So I assumed they blew up the rest of the cast?

No, no, no, it's not what you think! Bob is with Dot, Matrix is with AndrAIa, I know... I read a lot of talk here about conflicts between Matrix and Bob. Of course, it's good to see some arguments, but I really want to make sure that it won't end up like in season 4, where Matrix seemed to hate Bob even more than Ray! My take on this is that since Ray wasn't there, they neededsomeone for Matrix to shout at, so they just decided to make him turn on Bob. THAT wasn't Matrix. Matrix is not only the big ugly green guy who likes to blow up things and people, he's still the cute little Enzo who admires his hero and cares about his friends. And THAT wasn't Bob.
