ReBoot

On the “Our Studio” section of the Rainmaker website there is a video titled “Have a peak inside the studio”.

As you watch the video, it goes through shots of employees and also
animation they’re working on. We see a few clips of the Game Cube
teaser trailer we saw months ago.

After “Passion” comes up, there appears to be a digital character being loaded.

Hmm… unsure right?

Look closer at the side (rotated):

Bob = AVG antivirus. Free, and often expects someone to update to the commercial version (in reference to the tools available in the Super computer), though he does just fine by himself. All threats are promptly notified and moved to the Virus vault, and it's up to the user to delete them or not.
Matrix = McAfee. Comes at a price, but isn't half bad. He deletes viruses mostly without warning, and retrieving them back is a huge pain. (Matrix can be quite stubborn)
Phong= Norton anti-virus. He's well aware about the threats, and the first to tell you about them, but he's not gonna do anything about it.

Yeah.. I know those programs weren't around so much in the nineties, but still. xD

I've always been a fan of MMORPG's and if you think about it, ReBoot has the potential to be turned into a great MMO.  It provides diversification through character customization, class system, and factions. 

As with World of Warcraft, there could be waring factions (Guardians and Viruses), and then within each faction you choose a system to start in, and finally there could classes such as hacker like Mouse, web surfer like Surfer, tactics specific character like Dot, as well as faction specific classes, Guardians and Viruses.

For leveling system, gamecubes are the perfect instance style dungeon.  A party could go in, ReBoot, kill sprites, and kill a boss (The User) at the end. 

Also, travel would be an important part of the game because in the story there are hundreds of systems, not including the web.

First off, introductions:

Lately, you may have notice a little window pop-up as you've been navigating the site, informing you that you've been awarded a number of points. This is part of out new social capital system.

The question everyone seems to be asking is: what are these new mysterious points, and what are they for?

Think experience points. Basically, whenever you're active in the community - whether through posting new content, commenting on other works or just logging in - you will earn points.  These are linked to the new title system as well. As you amass points you gain access to new levels and titles.

We do have more plans for the point system, though for now things are still in development. Think new items for your avatar and the like.

Whether one likes it or not Enzo version 2 is here to stay. I have always been interested in this character because in a away Matrix and his relationship reflect the world of the computer. And as such I don't think  it would be bad if we see Enzo as a teen.

Matrix and Enzo have the same coding but are two different programs. When Matrix forgot to change his icon back into regular sprite mode the Computer read him as different document or program and saved him. However since there was no Enzo in Mainframe, he was restored.

This is similar to say if you if you saved one image as a jpeg and another as a tiff. They are the same picture, yet there is a difference. And lets say you had to restart the computer, both the tiff and jpeg would come back. The same goes for Matrix and Enzo. They may have the same coding but the computer reads them as two different files. So if there is another restart both come back.

How does this affect how Enzo grows up? Well for one thing...

and now i hate myself for it cause there's still no ending to the story...

With all the new stories and ideas that make their way to this site it is easy to forget about, or take for granted, Glitch. In my mind Glitch is as much of a character as any other Mainframer. Glitch has been with Bob from the beginning and has a personality all its own. It communicates with Bob, other keytools and other guardians. While I cannot see any of the pitches excluding Glitch from their stories as it was such a part of the world of ReBoot. I guess what I am trying to say is that Glitch should not be forgotten and not made any less of a character than it has always been. I have seen concept art, namely in Arrival, where Glitch is nothing more than a holographic display, which seems to be a part of Bob's suit, or armor or whatever you will call it. I have always had the fondest memories of Glitch being a separate entity from Bob and always there on his wrist. If for some reason some may think that Glitch being on Bob's wrist is too bulkey or something like that...

With the understanding that the writer has been chosen for the new ReBoot movies, it continues to make me wonder what the result will be. I'd love to see the series have a new look but still have the essence of the original. Let's not let the movies and graphics follow a fad and have the ReBoot movies be forgotten years down the road.

Think of it this way, the new Batman movie, The Dark Night, has already been reviewed with great results. It has a full story that follows the Joker, Batman, and Harvey Dent, and has great cinematography and special effects to boot. It does things we've never seen in the Batman series. This is what ReBoot needs... a kick in the butt to get a fresh start while breaking boundaries and not relying on gimmicks.

Here are some notes that I took (the good, bad, and ugly.)  I'd really like to know if anyone read this, so please comment - especially those in direct involvement with ReBoot creation. -

I strongly disagree with this method of reviving the whole series for reasons that bother me more than this hand drawn joke. If Rainmaker can't get the ORIGINAL Reboot creators to embark on this project, then I'm sorry to say that this "revival" will suck.

All the time and ressources wasted for what? Nothing. I don't care about fan-made projects and I sincerely think they're worthy for a totaly different show and should not be in relation to the original series.

Rainmaker: Hire the original Reboot creators/voices and you won't need to waste years worrying about your ideas going to waste. The Terminator series should have ended at 2: Judgement Day but some idiots decided to keep going at it to ruin the series. This isn't the type of project you consult with a random audience. It seems that you guys have no clue in which direction you're headed. You need people who know what they're doing with several years of experience doing it., otherwise it's not fit to be class...

So I have been wondering what a sprites color means: Bob is blue.
Enzo and Dot are greenish.
Mouse is purple.
AndrAIa is orange(but she is only a Game AI Sprite, so i don't think she really counts.)
But i have come up with a theory that maybe their color might have to do something with their programing ancestor. but then again i really don't know, so i would like to hear some opinions on this.

Anyways, I finally got my ReBoot artbook =D it's .... soooo awesome.  It's definitely helpful for my comic!

 Something I don't get about fanart though... how do you distinguish a fanart as for being for a pitch or not :/?  I was looking at some but a lot of the character designs are different... which ones are the real ones?  Also... is it even ok to draw a fanart for  a pitch anymore since the voting is over XD;...?  *Stupid*.

Okay I'm going to say this loud and clear. I'm a hopeless romantic. I'm sucker for a good series or story that throws in a bit or romance, not overkill. You wouldn't catch me reading one of those romance novels. That's way over board for me. And if something turns a bit too tragic, you can loose me.

Remember the TV series Beauty and the Beast? My fandom for that one died pretty fast after Catherine did. Does a little heartache work for me? In Doctor Who the Doctor lost his beloved Rose in a parallel universe. I kind of saw that coming. The Doctor doesn't come across as the type to get hitched.

Welcome to the new site! I've already seen the anticipation based on the load on the site! I am extremely enthusiastic to communicate further with old and new fans alike.

I thought I'd christen the site with a question that all fans from all areas can answer:

What made ReBoot special to you?

I began watching ReBoot in 1994 when it began to play on YTV. I believe this was back when the PJs were still on YTV.

I believe the most memorable moment was when The Zone played the teaser clip from the first episode of Season 3 ("The rest... didn't make it. Nine? That's all?"). I remembered, since I never noticed the shadowing, how heavy Dot's makeup was all of a sudden.

I have always found I can relate to ReBoot, and throughout the years as I've met many fans and creators and voice actors, I have found a community of great strength and knowledge.

So I leave the question to yo...

I'm not sure if a similar thread has been posted before, it is late and I'm to tired to search through all the pages.
I have watch the movie many times and never fully understood this, after i post I may check the wiki.
Bob's code was the key to beating Daemon or at least her infection, I understand why he wasn't able to cure Turbo, part of his code was missing thanks to Megabyte. And Matrix had a complete I wanna say copy of his code or protocol so he was able to administer the cure when he went back to sprite mode. But what I'm having trouble understanding is why Bob's code. If it was a Guardian thing then why were the others infected, Turbo was able to fight it for a while. Any insight?

I was a little suprised, and like "Why did it end that way? Oh well". A few months later, I heared about them making movies (which we are all waiting for). However, it is a bit more annoying to watch when you take into consideration that it was the last episode of ReBoot....

Wouldn't it be awesome to have a ReBoot convention?

Of course, that'll only really be viable if the revival does happen and we do get those movies. Maybe then Rainmaker could also afford to pay the rights fees and get the DVD boxset we all want out there.

But it would be cool to see the cast and creators at a con. I saw the footage on youtube of the ReBoot panel at the Anime con in Vancouver and devoutly wished I could be there. Did any of you guys see it?

C'mon, i know you weren't expecting Daemon to be so.. Innocent? After seeing the Web Riders and all those monsters, I imagined Daemon to be some super-demonic beastie thing. Man, what a surprise. 

Though i do like Daemon. It was a good surprise, and another good interesting in the story.

After reading the full comic in less than hour that it takes, does anyone else think that there was a HUGE amount of potential within there that the writers did not have the time to expand on?  (checking around shows that the project was rushed) 

Does anyone else want to see someone take some time to expand the story, fill in the gaps and show the full potential contained within the online pages?  Even if it's in another media, like written or visual? 

Just a thought really.  Wondering if I'm more or less on my own for this one.

They're quirky.  They're funny.  They're two of the most memorable characters from the show, but if you had to choose one who would it be?
I personally would choose Slash cause he always made me laugh more, especially when he didn't want to push a button.
Anyway, who would you pick?

What was your favorite Game Cube? My favorite was the game from "Wizards, Warriors, and a Word From Our Sponsor." I thought it really showcased the characters resourcefulness and teamwork. Mike the T.V. is always entertaining.

I've been thinking and if there's one thing this new film absolutely can't do without it's the classic binomes.

I mean, the world of Reboot is pretty much -their- world. That's definitely the feeling you get in the show. The sprites are there to help and protect them -so while sprites can look vastly different, binomes are always either three-boxes or a ball.

So kind of what I'm saying is... If they get the binomes right, I mean really right, with all their charisma and Lemminglike capacity for self-destruction, their propensity towards mass hysteria as their world starts exploding for the umpteenth time-

Well get all that right and it'll feel like Reboot, whatever else has changed.

ok, I've been on this forum for awhile and I decided I would finally post something of my own rather than just read. I've been thinking of what could possibly be a good plot since technology and computers have changed tremendously since the 90's and I don't have it completely thought out but here's what I got so far.

The movie starts out with everything all alive and well and we settle in to see that Dot, Bob, and the gang seem to all be on a permanent vacation. Dot & Bob being married and running the diner together, Enzo running around being his normal silly self, etc. Everything's normal...or so we think.

We all know Megabyte's the main bad guy besides Hex so I'm gonna use him...Megabyte secretly returns using that thing that made him look like someone else in the last season (I forget what it's called) and makes a deal with Matrix, making him think that he's just gonna do some hunting business with small viruses and what not...but in reality he's helping Me...

Bob aside, Im wondering who we want to see more of in the movie in regards to supporting characters. I've always loved Mike- he's a love hate kind of character. Of course any episode with Al yelling in the background is always great.

My favourite character is Andraia and one thing I did notice about the comic is for me it didn't feature her enough. While Dot has always had the world on her shoulders, Hex is crazy, and Mouse is just a flirty pants... Andraia to me has always symbolized a strong female character. A real shout out to feminism! She kicks butt, Keeps Matrix in line, is wise and calm, and I really enjoyed following her from a little sprite to the woman she is now. When I think of the series I always think of her first. Growing up there weren't a lot of great female characters to look up to but even when she was a kid Andraia was one for me.

Alright two weeks ago I made a post on the topic of creating a Role Play based around ReBoot. I am here to announce that I have made up my mind in regards to the role play. It is strictly text based. For reasons I will explain soon.Its hosted in an (I)nternet (R)elay (C)hat server so its not going to go away less I obliterate it.

-Reasons for text based-
1. It promotes creativity
2. It don't involve any programing.
3. Much more easy to maintain
4. Its still in real tine so its not like your reloading a forum every two minutes to see if they posted yet.
5. It leaves everything to the imagination.

I keep seeing blogs that say "Let's skip the hunt" "We don't need to see the Hunt!" "Make it a small thing".

Basically, everyone wants to skip a major plot in the series, one we've been waiting to see, just to "not confuse the new audience". Don't you think we were confused when we first saw this show back in 1994? "Who is that blue guy? Who's the green girl and the green kid? What's with the guy with the spikey things? What's with that blue orb of stuff? What's with the thing on the blue guys arm? What are those odd symbols on everyone's chest? What's that purple cube thing? What are those thing they're flying on? What is with the guy with no legs? Why are there no other cities? What's a 'user'?" I could go on forever!

 Anything can easily be explained on the way. Why skip the Hunt? It can be resolved in 4 episodes (That's the format ReBoot took late Season...

Well, there's been a lot of talk about ReBoot, lately, between the web-comic that is being made and the movies that are underway by Rainmaker. I just thought I would blog about this, as I'm not seeing any concern raised over what are hasty decisions on Rainmaker's part.

Don't get me wrong, I love ReBoot, and would love nothing more than for it's return in one animated form or another, but, from what I know of the situation, this is all wrong. I was so excited when I heard of the initiative to bring ReBoot back, first by letting a fan-picked team create a comic, perhaps to raise excitement about ReBoot and draw in new fans, and then by what is apparently a movie trilogy. Now here's where it all goes horribly, horribly awry...

For all of you who have been following the ReBoot Revival project (http://www.ReBoot.com), there have been a few weeks of questioning the quality of the content being produced.

As a fellow fan who has been following the comic since book 1, I have as well noticed a change in the way the comic has been directed. It has taken a direction that we are not familiar with in the ReBoot universe. And recently, there have been so many changes from scene to scene, it feels a bit crammed together.

Maybe it's in my opinion, but I feel we are rushing the team too much. With high fan demands, and little word on the progress on Rainmaker's side, we turn to the Revival team and have expectations to "wow" us until Rainmaker makes an announcement.

With the past few weeks, I truly believe we should give the Revival team, at the very least, a holiday break to come up with some material, an...

Right.  This has already been posted on the Java Hut and Reboot.cc.  I'm posting it here because there's a better chance of Rainmaker reading posts on those blogs than here and on ReBoot.cc and the Java Hut because we are but quiet little fan communities.

At first I thought the surveys were a really good idea, I have to admit.  But upon reflection... they really are just generic surveys.  And the topics, while "specific", are jumping around all over the place.  I'm failing to see how these kinds of questions would help them really.  Maybe they're trying to figure out how to advertise to the general public?  Is that why we're being asked what social networking sites we use?

I sincerely hope that's the case.  It was only happenstance that I actually came to learn about the whole revival project, and in all honestly I consider it to be an extreme (but very lucky) fluke that I happened to find GB's revival site only a couple of months b...

I'm an Englishman. I'm 20 years old, and I grew up, quite literally 'over the years', watching ReBoot (Yes, we had far worse airing times than you lucky Americans/Canadians/Everyone Else Everians™). I grew up watching the adventures of Bob, Dot, Enzo, Matrix, AndrAIa, Phong and everyone else, just like I imagine a lot of you did. I have a lot of fond memories of that show, particularly Bob's Birthday (Megabyte with a guitar? YES!) and the later series, where everything just seemed to 'grow up'. I've had to traverse OUR net to locate Series 4 and I've had no end of joy and disappointment collecting a myriad memorabilia from that show. I've written fan fiction, helped in the construction of fan art and at one point even had a limited run of ReBoot fan comics printed for circulation around my old college, having found people there who loved the series just as much as I did.

Loved the comic. Horah for return of codemaster Lens and everyones virus, Megabyte. I hope future comics and the film trilogy use Megabyte to infect and create "The MegaNet" through his code from Hexadecimal, who infected the Net to stop Deamon. Can not wait to see what will come for ReBoot's Revival.

When first read the Abigail's War pitch, I got a very clear mental picture of the scene where the two brothers come upon Abigail for the first time in the woods. I've finally gotten around to drawing it!

It's not exactly as I pictured it (in my mind, she has a body and is not just a disembodied head) and I realize now as I type this that I forgot the dirt on her face, but this is a fairly accurate representation of what I had in mind.

I've been having a busy couple of days, and it looks like a busy couple more are ahead of me. Such is the life of a hungry comics writer!

This weekend I was at Word on the Street, which is a books festival held in several cities across Canada. I think I have a photo - I haven't had time to download the pix from my camera yet. Anyways, I met a lot of people, some fellow comics creators, some comics readers, and a lot of kids who wanted sketches of stuff - I drew unicorns, geckos, pandas, a bunny, a dog, 2 spider-mans, 2 batmans, a venom, an iron man, the joker, james bond, the spirit, a dragon with a monkey on his back, hannah montana, an evil jester, some portraits of people, including a multi-eyed, tentacled horror of some kind which stopped ...

Well it's not really your life, it's another of my sorry fan art projects.  Lucky you, Minus 1 was on my hit list. 

Those of you familiar with my recent attempts at art will be surprised with the effort I put into this one.  It still wouldn't get me a passing grade on a grade 4 art project, but hey, I try, and make do with what I have lying around the old homestead.

This one took me a couple of days.  The "briefcase" was kind of fiddly, but then I realized, it's supposed to be mangled!

I've included page & panel numbers, and if you still can't tell what it is, I've also included script quotes from Minus 1 -The Pitch.

Maybe you're not old enough to remember, but vinyl records had the most awesome covers. There's so much more room on a big cardboard sleeve than there is on a CD liner, or an MP3 cover art file for that matter. My first record I ever got was Synchronicity by The Police and my second was Business as Usual by Men At Work. These are both still very close to my heart. Hopefully I was channeling some of their vibe when I did this fan art for Morgan Jeske's Gustav Hayes: Lounge Singer of the Apocalypse.

You may recognise the Pillsbury Doughboy from his role as the Nefarious Mick Leod, he's now playing the Dr.
