So, looking on this site made me really realize the passion of people that like comics (and ReBoot of course ;)). It's a passion like I've never seen before and I wanna be a part of it somehow (even if people think that comic book nerds... are nerdy... like star trek fans or something xD... but I don't know anything about star trek either...). It's kinda overwhelmingbecause I find it all so interesting, but I myself know NOTHING about western comic books at all ><". Heheh... can anyone tell me where to start?
Also, another question... I've never had an art class or anything so I don't know about "perspective", "lighting", umm... well and anything else that's important to making a pic look good... but I really like to draw. Are there any good books anyone reccommends? And not just for comic books... like... real traditional art like the kind you can do in college or something! I know I can never be that great or anything, but my ambition is just to learn as much as I can. My school doesn't have much in the way of art classes, and even so they're all full up this semester... and next semester I might be out of the country and I don't know if the uni there will have much to offer in english either... sooo yeah.
And to combine both those things, I really want a crash course in comic book and animation nerdyness! I really don't know anything at all! The only thing I read is Gargoyles, because... <3!!! When I was a kid, I used to love the saturday morning animations like the spider man and bat man and x men. But from the time I was about 10 to a year or two ago I mostly watched anime (I don't want to even start to get into my mixed feelings about that 7_7). The style is "cute" and whatever, but I really want to learn a more western style of cartooning... but it's hard because I don't know what to watch or read or where to look... sigh... ok I'm not sure if my words are even making any sense ; ; so I'll stop embarrassing my self now and... oh wait no I won't... I said I was gonna post a picture, didn't I? Embarrassment ensues!
It gets cut off so here is a link !
I wanted to draw a quick pic of Dot and her... "bodyguards"... because .... well, I've never drawn Hack n Slash before and I wanted to try... and cuz... I just love that these boneheads protect her! Quick doodling is an infinite source of FUN! Heh heh heh!
Can anyone guess whose line Slash is parodying? Lol *nerd*. I thought the quote kind of resembled the way Hack and Slash always speak in circles.
Super quick doodle to give myself a break from the lil mini reboot fan comic I'm trying to draw... cuz I'm stupid and overambitious like that ^_^;. Five pages sketched so far!

I like it! You did Dot really well! I like the look on her face and her hair. Also you're good with her proportions! Yay!

Recently I was over at my cousins and I found out why he uses a specific shade of blue to start a sketch, it's so after he makes the detail lines in black, he can scan the pic and have a really neat and clean image, since he uses non-photo blue.
I dunno if that is a helpful tip or not to you, so far your sketches are really nice. But one thing you may look at is www.marvel.com . They have a lot of the older animated TV shows able to be watched for free, like the 90s X-Men and Spider-Man, and the 60s Spider-Man if you want to see how it looked back then. And if you paid to subscribe, you could access tons of online Marvel comics.
Anyway, enjoyed your art.

If it's still available, pick up a copy of "Draw Comics the Marvel Way" and you'll get a GREAT text book on how to panel, compose and draw comics in the great western style!
Other comics related books are the Basic Training books published by Wizard magazine. Each focuses on a part of comics illustration (character, action, textures, etc) taught by the big names in comics.
As far as finding western comics, I would look at some of the Marvel Masterworks books, which reprinted some of the ground breaking books of the Marvel Universe. DC doesn't really have much in the way of 'teaching' books, but they have LOADS of graphic novels starring the big guns (Superman, Batman, etc.) ask at the local comic shop or any of the thousands of online comics outlets. One artist you should check out, however is Alex Ross. His works are collected into novels such as "Kingdom Come" and "Marvels" his works are beyond amazing.
