I think if they want to make a theatrical movie,
they shouldn't solve the cliffhanger in it, because it would be too confusing
for the new audience, and I do think there should be a Theatrical Reboot
movie. If they are gonna make a Theatrical movie they should redo seasons
1&2 to have the same graphics as season 3&4 and broadcast them all in
order, then release a TV movie to close up the cliffhanger. By the end,
if they space it out, more and more people will know about reboot. There could
also be some viral marketing having to do with one of the viruses. And if
they do make a Theatrical movie, I think it shouldn't just continue on the same
story. It should have the same main characters, yes, somewhat the same
feel, but not the same mainframe.
From what I can tell, Reboot takes place on a computer in the 90s, and is
probably running on DOS or Windows 95. A lot has changed in computers
since then. What if the main characters got put in storage of some sort,
like a backup file, and were accessed some time in 2009 or 2010?
Everything would be different.
Everything would look futuristic, move faster, have better graphics and Mainframe would be huge since hard drives can have up to a terabyte now. It would look like a super-computer to them, and it would take a long time to get used to it. And if
you think about it, there are no more super computers, just a net and web of
systems and web sites, so that could be a shocker too. I also think the main characters should look the same as they did in season's 3&4 for the first part of the movie, in contrast to the better graphics of everyone else, until they get upgraded.
Everything they used to know would be ancient history, it having been around or
over 10 years (millions of minutes). Everything has advanced, and almost
completely changed.
There are no more Guardians, just separate guilds of Anti-Viruses,
keeping order in the systems. They still follow the Guardian code, but
not completely since the code has been fragmented over time, and this could be
a great place for Bob to set things right.
Since search engines are now commonplace, there are portals open to the net and
the web constantly. This could cause some distress in the main
characters, and it would be a shock to them to know that the web isn't the
dangerous place they once knew (well, mostly not dangerous). There could
even be a sub-plot about the competition between search engines. Firefox,
Chrome, and the old Internet Explorer, who can't keep up with the others, who
had just recently figured out how to open multiple portals (tabs).
Games are way different than what they knew. 1st, a lot of games now have
more than just player vs everything, now there are some sprites that are allied
with the player. This could be a great source of drama, if one of the
characters rebooted and was placed on the player's team. 2nd, not all
games are just win and lose anymore, and with RPG's, there could be more than
just one sitting. The characters could be confused when the game ends
even though nobody won, because the player just quit the game and decided to
finish it up later. 3rd, Games don't just drop in random places
anymore. Mainframe now has a defragmenter, and the games only land in
game zones, areas used only for games. They aren't dangerous anymore,
infact they're a form of entertainment. People willingly walk into them
knowing they might be nullified, because they've found a way to turn nulls back
into people. Audiences watch the games from cameras in game. They
cheer, boo, make bets or just watch.
Also there could be plenty of references to more recent games, like The Sacred Scrolls VII: Oblowind Fell, the Arena Chronicles (Elder Scrolls), a game where a heavily armored space soldier shoots at aliens on a giant space structure called Eclipse (Halo), A scientist opens a portal to another dimension and has to get through the facility and go through another portal to close it before the Atomic Decay is finished (Half Life), A game where the player is a gang member and most of the game is spent doing Drive By's called Drive By VI (GTA) and they could even make remarks about the gang violence, like they did with zombie violence in that Resident Evil/Evil Dead game.
This super-orderly, super-massive mainframe might be overwelming to the main
characters, and they could feel useless and outdated now that everything is
faster. The System seems too orderly for them, and they're no the only
ones. The other person who has a problem with this is in fact the reason
they were accessed in the first place.
Enter, Hexadecimal. Over her time spread out through the systems, she has
gathered her fragments together, but by the time she was almost complete, some
of the systems with her in them had Shut down, and anti-virus software was
getting better. So, she turned to the last place where she could be happy
causing chaos, a place already chaotic, The Web. She has gathered herself
almost together, with some parts missing, but as she formed into her old self,
the Web was becoming less and less chaotic, with more and more orderly sites,
more and more of the web being used by the systems of the network, and it
looked like she had no where left to go. It was then that a new site was
created. A forum originally designed for a different purpose, but through
it came a sub forum that was everything Hex loved.
A sub-forum where there was almost no regulation, where gruesome and horrible
things were turned into jokes, where plans to hack systems were made daily, and
where the only form of order was a loose group where everyone was completely...
anonymous. She had found Chorn.org, subforum - R.
She finds out that Bob isn't there anymore, and decides to have a little fun. She infects accounts and convinces the users to hack mainframe. This
would be a great place for the main characters to pose some great questions
about users, and their affect on systems, the net and the web. Also there
could be a great scene where one of the main characters asks "why would
the users do this?" To which Hex would reply, while changing her
mask, "Why? HAHAHAHAHA WHY? FOR THE LULZ OF COURSE!
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!"
I'm not quite sure how it would end, but it seems like a pretty good idea to
me. What do you guys think?

I had an idea similar to this a while back, but if I had posted it, I would've kept things around 2004-2005, not sure why, although it would keep such a show from having to change in the preproduction stages (that could happen with any date, really). I didn't try to introduce Bob and friends into it (although Hexadecimal would have played a part), and the plot would have centered around a system (possibly Mainframe) gaining self awareness, possibly interacting with the still-unseen user. Another difference from what came into my head and yours: Anti virus software, instead of being in individual format, would have been in a centralized building like the Principal Office, yet smaller.
Long story short, since the fans (me included) want to see how the cliffhangers are resolved, this would most likely happen in the form of a spinoff, or if it became canon, it would come after the theatrical movies, with the main characters perhaps being stored willingly...

maybe the user could be updating his computer since it's been on the verge of crashing, and even crashed once in the past day. He could be getting a new computer and upgrading to windows 95 if he/she had DOS or 98 if he/she had 95, and they could be put in backup. And the user could have forgotten about those files or gotten better ones.

redoing season 1 and 2 sounds stupid to me
i think reboot is good the way it is
i think what your saying is just a waste reading it

No redo of season 1 and 2. Please no just no. If it has to be redone, than Gavin needs to be in on it.

Being a fan of the series since the first day it aired I'd have to say i'm rather conflicted on rebooting the series. On the one hand it can bring in new viewers to the series, on the other hand if they change too much then they'd basically alienate their viewers of the past. For me as long as it has the characters and their personalities intact then I wouldn't mind if they 'updated' the series to more current day standards. It might just give Reboot the little 'reboot' it needs. Frankly I rather like the ideas you've come up with. You've obviously thought them out rather well. And in all honesty I came up with a fan fic based on that same idea once a long time ago. Unfortunately I've had to reformat my hard drive many times over since then and the story has since been lost. I would upload it again but floppy is now obsolete with my current system.

Wanted to add in that unlike my original Idea yours has a lot more that I hadn't even thought to consider.

What will happen to Ray, AndrAIa, and little Enzo? If Rainmaker does a
redo will they come back?
Season three in my opinion was the best season. There was a lot of character development in there. My concern with rebooting Reboot is that the characters will be unrecognizable or removed from the cast.
The heart of Reboot was centered along the characters. So the characters need to be familiar, need to have the same personalities. I think Guardians and Keytools should stay since it was a big part of the show. Viruses could be expanded on; maybe even benign ones. That can help to add complexity to the story.

I didn't say anything about doing a complete reboot, just improving the graphics of the first 2 seasons so that they have the same graphics as the 3rd and 4th seasons, which would be tolerable to today's tech savvy youth who know good graphics from bad. Have you seen the first season lately? I mean sure a lot of the stories are far better than today's programs but have you ever imagined how those really good episodes would look with the dynamic shadows and lighting and higher polygon count of the 3rd and 4th seasons?

I feel the whole hunt cliffhanger needs to be resolved before a movie can be made, even if as said by some, the hunt being a canon or spin off before the movie.
And with the trend of most movies nowadays you'd probably find the ReBoot movie being based in 2024 or the distent future where the sprites can interact with the real world via holograms.
And the story would more than likely follow this kind of plot, some computer tech/hacker etc uncovers the old megabyte/hexadecimal virus code and inadvertently unleshes it onto this new futuristic world etc etc... With the main human "Users" would have to try and ReBoot the old guardian protocol using the real world glitch or other keytool (going by recent trends it would end up being made by the future sony or something) to which the main "user" gets ReBooted into the new Bob to stop Megabyte/Hex.
This is just my guess based on movies i've seen to do with characters i grew up with (i.e Transformers, Batman, Iron Man etc...)

that doesn't sound like a very good movie, and it would probably confuse a lot of people.

I personally would NOT want to see a movie about seasons 1 & 2. That's how most TV show to movie movies are - two hour episodes that I have to spend $9.50 for. That's ridiculous, especially in this economy. And why would I do that when 1. I can You Tube all the season episodes or 2. download them or the movie. Heck, I could watch the movie online!
I would spend money on resolving the cliffhanger. I'm sorry, but there's too much left hanging. If say this was around season 3, I wouldn't mind seeing a completely different movie or soemthing, but S4 left so many things hanging.
Megabyte took over the Principal Office; he's infected Phong (who had previously stated could not be infected by a virus); he's infected Welman Matrix; he's kidnapped Little Enzo Matrix. The city of Mainframe is left to his mercy.
Let's say that when Megabyte & Hex took over Mainframe, the series ended right then. Or ended after the infamous Game Over. WOuld you want a totally different storyline?

Stupid limit. As I was saying, Would you want a different story line or finish the one you have going? S3 told us what happened to Matrix & AndrAIa, what happened to Bob (somewhat), and flashbacked to what went on with Megaframe.
It'll just make fans angry if they don't tie up these loose ends. Bob & Dot still haven't recconciled; Matrix hasn't said one word to Welman: Matrix and Enzo aren't exactly close...and what the heck was going on with AndrAIa in LAG???
Anyway, I'd rather these get tied up before I see the crew in a new story.

I like the redo of seasons 1&2 it kinda reminds me of what they did with Gurren Lagann
