Fans that have followed the relaunch of ReBoot understand that it’s been a process that has run fast, then slow, sometimes at breakneck speeds and sometimes coming to a screeching halt. But progress has been made and the prospect of a return to Mainframe is closer than ever.
But this next bit is the part that counts. And this is where we need your help.
Lessons Learned
One lesson we learned along the way is that there really is no substitute for the encyclopedic knowledge and unquestioned ardor of the fans themselves. Even though we tried to tap into this spirit with the webcomic, it became clear that what was really needed was a compendium of all things related to ReBoot. Not just a Wikipedia entry, but something created by fans and, more importantly, curated by fans. Not just a laundry list, but something that honed in on precisely what resonated with audiences.
We all know what Bob’s storyline is, but what is it about *him* that resulted in such a special character? The dialogue? The puppy dog eyes? The hair? It was the hair, right?
Would such a compendium have helped us in developing the new story and characters for the webcomic? No question. So would it be useful to those creative geniuses charged with creating a feature-length masterpiece? Definitely. Will it be useful for new fans that may have never seen the original show? Absolutely.
But we need your help to bring it all together. Here’s what you can do.
Curate the Compendium
All of these ideas, recollections, opinions and contrasts will need to be boiled down into a definitive compendium that, in some ways, becomes the fans’ manifesto of why ReBoot ruled. This is a tall order and something that has never really been done before.
While some top-flight fans have stepped forward to guide this process, they’re going to need your help. Get to know them and don’t be shy about offering your opinions and extra cycles. After all, it takes a village… damn, I knew I was going to screw up this metaphor before I was through.
Be Part Of It
If you’ve already joined ReBoot.com or Zeros2Heroes.com, it’s time to reactivate your account. If you are new to this world — or this site — it’s time to join up. Registration is super-easy and extra-quick. And if you have friends that you think would be interested, invite them too.
