Hmmm, I'm not sure how I feel about the ASPs. I mean, I do think it's a good idea and it's certainly a fresh plot point. But one of the things I thought was key in the existing episodes was the interaction between the characters during the games. I loved seeing the characters' individual efforts and varying personalities put together to beat a game. If the ASPs are only sent to a single individual, the element of the heroes working together and the resulting character development is lost.
What happens if the individual "beats" Gnosis' challenge? Are they sent another one, and another until they are defeated?
There are a couple of other questions I have about the ASP concept. The ASPs seem to be a somewhat inefficient way for Gnosis to dispose of the (surely) large numbers of sprites that will stand in opposition. Is each ASP environment tailored specifically for the individual to which it is sent? And if the individual beats it, does Gnosis have to design a new one until the individual loses? If that's the case, then Gnosis must spend a lot of time designing and programming a single environment and challenge for one person.
And if Gnosis is so determined to eliminate rebellion and opposition, if Gnosis can so easily target a specific individual with each ASP, why not simply send some sort of deletion command to dispose of the opposition quickly rather than bothering to think of an environment from which the target could potentially survive and escape?
I do think the ASPs are an interesting idea, and they are certainly much more threatening to the characters than a game cube. It just seems a bit...complicated.
ALBEDO & TRGDR777: It's true, conventional games were not included in the original pitch. I'm reasonably convinced that they will return for V2 of Arrival. Check back for that later this week.
Maybe Gnosis works like Windows XP, and none of the User's games are actually compatible... I STILL can't get my old DOS games to work right. (that's what DOSBox is for...)
I have one reservation: Gnosis may fancy himself a user by sending ASPs, but has the user stopped playing games all together? Will game-cubes be completely replaced? One thing I thought commendable about the end of season 3 was that even when the system was so buggy it was just about crashing, the user still persisted in playing games... so true to life lol.
Your description of the seeking ASPs reminded me immediately of the episode When Games Collide with the corrupted game slipping and warping all over the place towards the other game. It would have to be absolutely frightening seeing that coming at your sector for the first time. XD

I wouldn't mind either way if Games weren't in it, but it's nice to see that they are, in some form.

But i'm not sure what you mean about new gaming trends. ReBoot had RPGs, a Racing game and an FPS.

I like the idea, it makes this pitch seem even more like the ReBoot I remeber.
