The icon is awesome. It's like mint-flavored viral :D
I think overall the story is solid. I think some of your in depth explanations of story elements makes some of us feel queezy, but when we realize that this is going to be illustrated and not just explained by a character it seems like it would work better. So, as long as the silly explanations are kept to a minimum (I.E. Explaining the user's abandoning systems in order to play a web game) it all seems to work really well.
I think the web game should be a Space-based sci fi game. Sort of like EvE Online (http://www.eve-online.com) but more character based, maybe space station stuff. This would provide lot's of interesting action sequences, and it stays away from World of Warcraft like fantasy elements.
I think we are now getting into the "specific taste s" part of the process. With V1 everyone agreed on certain things because they dealt more with what made Reboot ReBoot. Now people are debating specific characters and smaller ideas. You'll have a hard time pleasing everyone as time goes by. Personally I'm just waiting to see what you guys do. You'll never get a consensus on the type of game so don't even try.
This proposal is starting to feel real to me. Instead of being a framework with a few character descriptions and pictures stuck in, it feels like a real story. Like the Velveteen Rabbit, it's come alive for me. So, yes, you're a real boy now.
There are lots of aspects of it I like. A few that I dislike, but hey, if I want a story every aspect of which pleases me I'd better get off my duff and write it myself. (And, in fact, I'm in the process of doing just that.)
I'm glad that you're listening to our input, but not caving to every single request. Even mine. ;)
Sounding like there's some good progress happening! :) I'm glad we could all help flesh it out a bit more.
I agree with WiGgy— your team's going to have to just take the reins regarding the game, as well as lots of the other details, because while we love ReBoot as a whole I'm sure we're each imagining something (slightly or dramatically) different. If we could build a comic for each of us there'd be so many differences amongst us!
So I don't think you should worry too much about disappointing some people about some things— that would come with any script, even from the original writers. Heck, there are some aspects I hate about ReBoot! (gasp!) But I still go back because of the things I absolutely love about it. Work to please everyone equally and it becomes a very complex and tangled plotline— too tangled, I mean. Sometimes we like tanglies. ^_^
Overall I think y'all are doing a fab job, and I can't wait to hear what you've come up with for the tighter plot. And I agree with Slack— more Smartens art soon, please!
I'd be a liar if I said I wasn't diggin' the icon lol. I agree that at this point it's a lot harder to please everybody. We should probably have some separate discussions about debatable issues/content to make it easier to realize what the majority opinions are. I think a lot of people have thrown their ideas out there and now we've had a chance to see those different points of view. Now we really need to sit and talk about all of the stuff that's on the table. Also we need to keep in mind how the different pieces fit together. Vector's personality, Matrix becoming a Guardian, & the nature of this massive game are all topics that need to work together to enhance the story. The decisions about how these are handled should be made so that each compliments the others. I know most of this seems obvious, but it's worth saying anyway.
I think the fact that V2's responses are so widely varied, and more importantly that eventually, assuming issues are handled 'right,' everyone can get into them eventually, is an incredibly good sign. You've done some amazing work, and the re-tightening of this version could be fantastic.
The one thing everyone needs to remember is that we never had this input in the original series, and we still loved it. If we all get our way we may end up with something worse than if we let you go to a degree. Not saying we're not important to this process... only that just because we don't like it doesn't mean you can't MAKE us like it. I don't know about anyone else, but when I heard that Enzo and AndrAIa were going to grow up in season 3, I was pissed. That was NOT cool, it was a terrible idea, and I knew it would ruin the show. How could it not? It, of course, turned out to be the best season by far, and they became my favorite characters in the series.
So the wide range of reactions coupled with the fact that I think we've all gained some confidence in your grasp of the universe and your writing skills tells me that in the end, anything that meets resistance right now is not necessarily something we're going to be unhappy with in the end as long as you continue to get it.
Thank you for helping bring our show back to life in a way we can all appreciate.
I love the colour scheme of the Icon but do you remember Dot and Matrix's tattoos from the 3rd and 4th seasons? They had the traditional symbol in the center and some add ons around it., almost reflecting the changes that had happened (I personally have Dot's Tattoo on me, thats how big of a fan I am, =D). Maybe you should do something like that with the symbol of Arrival, try to reflect the new era they are in.
You know what? I'll draw something and submit it and see how that goes.
Other than that, the ideas so far in Arrival are great, like I said in the chat, I think Enzo turning Avatar is great and I think a cool twist would be GNOSIS gaining Hexadecimal's powers through that code she put in his icon at the end of Daemon's rising. Sure, that code was used for Welman, but Gnosis can get it out of him... somehow?
Vector's personality seems to be the type that wouldn't be really familiar with the sprites' way of life and it could be a tad bit of comic relief if he were to say things that were out of line or not really the social norm? I dunno, just throwing out ideas here ^_^;;
