Recently I was over at my cousins and I found out why he uses a specific shade of blue to start a sketch, it's so after he makes the detail lines in black, he can scan the pic and have a really neat and clean image, since he uses non-photo blue.
I dunno if that is a helpful tip or not to you, so far your sketches are really nice. But one thing you may look at is www.marvel.com . They have a lot of the older animated TV shows able to be watched for free, like the 90s X-Men and Spider-Man, and the 60s Spider-Man if you want to see how it looked back then. And if you paid to subscribe, you could access tons of online Marvel comics.
If it's still available, pick up a copy of "Draw Comics the Marvel Way" and you'll get a GREAT text book on how to panel, compose and draw comics in the great western style!
Other comics related books are the Basic Training books published by Wizard magazine. Each focuses on a part of comics illustration (character, action, textures, etc) taught by the big names in comics.
As far as finding western comics, I would look at some of the Marvel Masterworks books, which reprinted some of the ground breaking books of the Marvel Universe. DC doesn't really have much in the way of 'teaching' books, but they have LOADS of graphic novels starring the big guns (Superman, Batman, etc.) ask at the local comic shop or any of the thousands of online comics outlets. One artist you should check out, however is Alex Ross. His works are collected into novels such as "Kingdom Come" and "Marvels" his works are beyond amazing.
