Someone above me said Matrix should become a corrupted program; I think Enzo should become one instead.
Enzo becoming a corrupted program would not only cause some interesting character reactions with Dott and Bob, but Matrix could really react strongly to this not wanting to see Enzo turn out like him.
Enzo becoming corrupted just seems like it would be more interesting and heart-wrenching.
I think the idea's kind of cool. It does have a lot of similarities to infections like Megabyte's or Daemon's, which is the main drawback.
I guess in this case there would be no visual cue that they were changed, and perhaps only a very subtle one in how they act (a twitch, a habit they now omit, a lost memory) that would boil down to how their programing was modified. That would make it doubly hard to figure out if someone was infected.
Something like: (Whoops! I just deleted your ability to empathise! I also seem to have erased that memory about your first birthday, but you're still in working order. Go kill Bob!)
But they don't crazily want to kill everybody, from what's described. They can be stealthy. Daemon's people acted like virals. "My lady Daemon! Wee! The Word!" ;) In this case, it'd be far more difficult to tell who was infected.
Sorry but from previous eps, I associate both words with the same thing: corrupted, infected. You'll have to clarify for readers what you think the difference is. Seems to be some confusion, if there is in fact a difference.
I like the idea a lot, but, at the same time, I can see what others are saying that it might be too similar to Daemon and Megabyte at the end of My Two Bobs (in fact, aren't all of Megabyte's troops throughout all of Reboot just infected binomes?). I think you'd have to think of how a corrupted program is going to differ from a viral infection, maybe by coming up with a list of the similarities and differences between the two. I'm not really computer savvy, so I'm not entirely sure how they're different in the technical sense, making it kind of difficult for me to come up with suggestions on how to make them different within the Reboot universe. However, I'm sure if you were able to come up with a way in which they were different, even if it's one key fundamental difference rather than a whole plethora of tiny differences, then the idea of Corrupted Programs could work really well (because I do think it's cool!) while still being seen as completely separate from viral infections.
I was thinking the same thing about the elites. Daemon all over again. The main difference you've made here is that they're not raving about -You must meet Gnosis, he's so great, we love him.- They're sneaky, and it's not obvious according to what you've said here that they're corrupted.
Wait- did you say they eventually start bugging up? What if they slowly become those mindless drones the Avatars after their code is so badly corrupted? Like a slow progression towards the point of no return? Could make for interesting plot if they encounter someone they care about whose become affected.

A corrupted sprite could seem normal until triggered, like someone programmed by hypnotic suggestion.

I'm not keen on the idea of corrupting existing sprites, but there is potential in having badly coded programs running around. Perhaps the avatars...

Maybe a corrupted sprite acts normally sometimes and then wants to kill everybody, returns to normal for a few minutes, then kills everybody again...
