They've sorta tied up the cliffhanger with Paradigms Lost - not in the best way, but it's better than nothing.
I'm really surprised they didn't finish off the season 4 cliffhanger. It was such a perfect cliffhanger though. Megabyte returns, more ruthless than ever and out for revenge, and efficiently takes over the Principal Office, leaving the main characters scattered in all directions.
It is saddening that it *seems* they couldn't finish due to funding or popularity or whatnot, and recently the passing of Tony Jay. That the movies are following a different path (understandable though - you can't drop cinema audiences in the middle of a story and expect them to watch)...
I found that comic's ending to be anti climactic. The first issue was good IMO, it was when the writers became Rushed when it began to suck, and then we got some really anti climactic ending and they cut out some of the story that was planned (like Matrix and the Guardian Enforcers, which was one of my favourite aspects of the pitch).
What happened is this: WB bought toonami and some of the shows. However ReBoot wasn't one of them. ReBoot was competing against Animaniacs and the WB didn't like that. Also Toonami or CN wanted to have some creative input. Gavin and the others didn't want that to happened. So the WB slashed the number of episodes for that season. As a result some things got cut out, the puns, the computer jargon, and some pop culture references. So the the number of viewers start to slide.
In a last ditch effort, Gavin and crew wrote the Hunt, hoping the executives did not want to end it that way. Unfortunately WB and CN couldn't careless.
So ReBoot got cancelled and we got stuck with a cliffhanger.
It's always about money, isn't it? If it really went like you're saying, then I'm mad at WB and CN. How could they? ReBoot was a unique series that even set a standard for the coming series or movies, like Toy Story for example - it was made after at least the first two seasons of ReBoot. And then they just dump it in the trash, even when there were so many fans who really cared about the series. I have to say I'm happy that Gavin and the crew made "the Hunt" because the story was very exciting, but like you said, it shouldn't have ended like it did. It's such a shame - deep inside, I feel like the characters are almost family to me - that's how much I cared about ReBoot. You could say I was raised with it, because I was like three years old when I first saw ReBoot, and I still love it. I hope Rainmaker is listening to the fans... I really do, because I'm sure others feel the same about our beloved series.

So long as it restarts the franchise, I'm ok with it.

If they are gonna restart the franchise, they really should tie up the cliff hanger.

I was pretty annoyed. Such a good story so easilly stopped. But at the same time it's a good sign for the future of ReBoot.
