Well at least they are still working on it. As for the animation...not impressed. For one thing Sprites don't have skin cells; for another it looks like a human wearing a mask.
Guys come on. "Prepare for the upgrade." If this is a clip about ReBoot, (most likely) than this makes sense. The trailer looked a lot different than the original show, so maybe that's how the movie is going to look and all the characters will be a lot more human-like (skin cells, etc.) due to an upgrade in the world of ReBoot (i.e. throughout the net). Besides, imagine this on the big screen. (That's still happening, right?) The old graphics would be very hard to watch. I think this will look a lot better on the big screen than it does on tiny computer monitors.
Oh yeah. It says version 1.0 which could also mean that this is only the computer artists first draft of what they intend to do with the movie. The final product could look completely different.
It's hard to have an opinion of what is to come from a half-second clip of a mystery character loading. What would really give us a good idea of the movie, is if we could read the script, like an excerpt from a scene of the movie. No matter how detailed the models or how fluid the animation might be, if the story isn't good, it won't fly.
Now about this clip, honestly I was completely turned off. It's just a random guy smiling, and he's not even attractive. Lol. For me the face proportions are kinda creepy. I think it's the wide-spread glossy eyes, pointy nose, and huge mouth. But there is a lot more to a character than the face. There's personality, actions, body language, etc. Those things, if done well, will make an appealing character. Animation-wise, if the business and body language are convincing and "real" that's more important than just a nice face. So, no point in critiquing this, because... it IS just one face. It doesn't tell us much.
Also, I didn't think it was Bob. I thought it was an new version of Turbo or something. Personally in the new adaptation of the film, is would be cool if the story started off with the guardians and the guardian academy, so we know straight off what the main character's function/purpose is and we can quickly identify with him. I remember showing the first episode of the show to my friend, and she was like "yeah, I have no clue what's going on" because we were put in the middle of a chase that we had no idea was about. The world of Reboot can be confusing to those who aren't extremely computer/technology savvy. The story needs to work on an elementary level too, if it's going to resonate with a larger audience.
But what ever happened to working WITH the fans? They are doing the complete opposite! Why even bother telling them what we want anymore? We've done that until our freaking eyes fall out and where has that gotten us? No where except teasers and character designs that give us brain aneurysms....
They could have even kept this animation... But at least give him his dreads or something! That's not going to take away from the dollar value of the movie, w Just little things like that that they've missed really angers me. Bob is a fun loving, easy going guy. His character doesn't fit the military look in general. But really why do I bother? It makes me wonder what would have happened if we didn't give the countless feedback that we did. He probably would have been yellow for all we know. Thanks, Rainmaker, for at least giving us his skin colour.
I can't blame the negativity going on really. It's one thing if you're not giving this whole project a chance, but I think most of us were willing at one point. But at the end of the day... crap is still crap. Now, I'm not saying it will be, but judging from the project and how long its taken them to get this far and for what they've given us.... I'm just not that excited anymore. "Passion.." What passion? Feh!
I don't like ReBoot for the sake of it's name. That's not what this is about. It has to have the same feel. Anyone can make a show with blue people inside a computer.
To me, this spells lazyness. Mainframe Entertainment was so successful because they pushed the boundaries with what they were "comfortable" with. They had a ton of different styles. So just because it's not their "style" means very little to me.
But hey, prove me wrong Rainmaker. Prove me wrong.
I don't think it's Bob...and it's probably not Turbo. They've shown us glimpses of other Guardians in the past and I think this is just the introduction of a new character.
The style is interesting and so long as Bob has blue skin and silver dreadlocks, I'm game.
ya i agree as long as they keep the main characters mostly the same ( and i mean like 95% the same ) I'm okay with then adding in characters here and there.
I think it's quite obvious what this picture reveals.
It's a modern take on ReBoot. Based on what we saw in the early trailer, the world of Mainframe seems to have taken a more modern look. It's obvious now, based on this picture.
Ladies and gentlemen, fans of ReBoot.
It's clear that this is an image from inside the game cube that dropped in the trailer. Since it's a modern take, it will have modern games, based on modern popular culture and media of today. Therefor, the explanation is simple:
This is an image of "the User" playing the game "Avatar", based on the hit movie of the same name. That person isn't Bob, Turbo, Ray, Mickey Mouse, or anyone. It's simply the User's form in the game.
Give that guy funky chunky wiggly floppy dreadlocky hair and yeah, sure, I'll take that as the new Bob. Don't lose the Marley you got in the old Bob.
Otherwise the face isn't that bad, but I'd work on the lips they don't look natural or unnatural enough, they're in that weird creepy zone. The cheeks and face structure are cartoony enough to be fine.
-Like, the original graphics didn't have the males' lips in a different color. But that smooth silicon graphics shading still made you quite aware they were there. I liked that softly shaded smooth look of old.
Also his skin looks slimey and shiny in a strange mucus-coating sort of way. In fact, combined with the skin texturing, he's got a real amphibious merdude thing going on.
I hope when they think reboot "ReBoot" for the next generation that they don't forget that ReBoot is the story of Bob really. You can't have ReBoot without Bob... I mean they had a small stint where he was gone, but that was still great because we all loved Bob so much we just HAD to keep watching to find out what would happen to him in the end.
I don't know if this is Bob... but if this ReBoot is Bob-less well I'll be a little less interested. I still have to support the franchise though... it was brilliant and there is always the chance this new one could be amazing as well.
I'm not going to get bent out of shape though about a 5 second snip of what the studio is working on. I just hope they really don't drop the ball on this and alienate their old fans in an attempt to jazz up the franchise and reboot it for the next generation. If they please the old fans at least those fans will spread the love onto the new viewers.
Man most people here complain waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much.
The animation looks just fine. Great even. I can totally understand people wishing the artists would stick with the original art style. However it's only natural that an animation studio such as Rainmaker would opt for improved technologies currently available that can be applied to their works.
Also, aside from a few guesses you honestly can't tell anything about whatever project this animation came from. We have one face, a "compiling up" animation, some text, and some background. So what? That's not nearly enough to draw any solid conclusions, so quit complaining about the art style or the animation particulars. Be grateful that work is still being done on ReBoot in general.

And I hope that isn't Bob. For one thing Bob had brown eyes not blue. If we can't disinguish who the characters are than something is wrong.

Maybe we're jumping to the wrong conclusions...maybe we're going to get some sort of back story to Bob's life, and this is his dad.

Oooooo! I like this idea. This could be his dad and his mom could have dreadlocks.
Just as long as it's not an evil twin story.

The problem is that we haven't received any new knews so we don't know what this is. So we are a bit worried.
Also, the fact that we can't tell who this is is worrying in itself. Even when He-Man was redone it still looked like He-Man.
