ARRIVAL V3: Another Awesome Contest

0 Like This

rebootarrivalthumbnailborder11.jpgProfessor Whizzy Wig here. It seems that, in my other awesome contest , I excluded everyone that didn't know how to draw from winning one of my mint-viral cookies. Shadowbolt suggested a writing contest... so here it is:

You must write one of these by next Sunday, August 26th - the end of the pitch contest:

  1. A 3-page screenplay of a scene from Arrival, or
  2. A 1-page short fiction of a scene from Arrival

Both entries must be written in 12-point courier, then copied into the blogger. Don't try to trick me with a 1 1/2 page short story. I'll be checking! :)

If you choose to write the screenplay, make sure you use the same formatting I used in the V3 script (standard format).

You know the story of Arrival - go ahead and pick any scene you'd like to do. Just make sure it's distinctly Arrival and not just any ReBoot fanfic. Here are some possibilities:

  1. Turbo hiring Matrix to be a Guardian Enforcer
  2. The High Codemaster presenting GNOSIS to the Guardian Collective
  3. The argument between Lens and Ether after Lens rats out the Codemasters for their deception
  4. Matrix, Ether, and AndrAIa meeting Vector in the Web Game.
  5. Avatar Enzo meets Bob, Dot, and Lens on the battlefield for the first time.
There's tonnes of options, so go nuts. Happy writing!

What's the difference between a screenplay and a short fiction?

Uhm... does it have to be one page EXACTLY for the short fiction, or can you go a few lines over or under? A word limit might be better because then there's no quibbles over the font size/line spacing.

I'm SOOOO all over this, BUT - I have to ask, what do you use to tell how much is a page, etc etc? I want to be able to know I'm within the correct boundaries before I post anything.

    - Also, as a separate blog entry? Or right here as a comment?

    Answers to questions:

Post it as a new post.

For the 1-pager fiction, write it on a page with a 1-inch margin on all sides. Use courier in 12-point.

Do not go over the one-page limit for the shrot story. Slightly under is fine.

For those of you don't know the difference between a screenplay and a short story, my V3 script is a screenplay (what screenwriters write for movies). When I say "short story" I mean to write it like a regular novel. So you have 2 options.

If you don't know how to format or write a screenplay, now is not a good time to try. Just go ahead and write the 1-pager short story.

    Good luck all!

Uhm... got another question I'm afraid Prof... it's Courier New (the one that comes with Word) you want us to use, right? *wants to get cracking on Dot, Bot and Lens VS Avatar Enzo*

I am all over this. I am on this like nulls on Hexadecimal. Like stubble on Matrix. Like some other equally unappealing simile.

Dumb question time. Someone recently posted the blow-by-blow version of the Arrival outline. I believe it was more in-depth than the one in the pitch section, but I can't be sure because I can't see the pitches on my home computer because of the Flashturbation. Could someone post a link to the blow-by-blow here, if it is indeed more than is in the pitch section?

Yes, can we try both? *pleads*
