Posted in The Story so far..., 3 years ago
With the understanding that the writer has been chosen for the new ReBoot movies, it continues to make me wonder what the result will be. I'd love to see the series have a new look but still have the essence of the original. Let's not let the movies and graphics follow a fad and have the ReBoot movies be forgotten years down the road.
Think of it this way, the new Batman movie, The Dark Night, has already been reviewed with great results. It has a full story that follows the Joker, Batman, and Harvey Dent, and has great cinematography and special effects to boot. It does things we've never seen in the Batman series. This is what ReBoot needs... a kick in the butt to get a fresh start while breaking boundaries and not relying on gimmicks.
I definitely think that they should at least let Gavin Blair have some sort of involvement. At least let him give some input and include some of his ideas to keep the old true fans (all of us involved in this whole revival process) happy.
I need as many of the original voice actors as possible too. They made the characters and are very iconic.
I guess the moral of the story is, and what I've been saying all along, is I don't want a COMPLETELY different ReBoot. Right now, all I care about is having the original characters with preferably the same voices and a good plot. Don't just rely on new technology in graphics and gimmicks to sell the movie. Give it substance. That's up to the writer and whole creative team. I don't need this to be like a Spy Kids movie that's childish, has a poor story, and relies on special effects (sorry to Spy Kids fans). I'd hate to see a complete boycott of the movies happen due to a mob of unhappy fans. Of course, it's up to the creative team to make a movie that won't let that happen. If people don't like the first movie then they definitely won't want to see another two.
Also, what's going to sell this movie is having it not only appeal to youth but also be interesting for parents. If parents like it, they'll support the kids interest. If the kids have support, they'll continue enjoying the rebooted ReBoot.
Rainmaker basically has to get it perfect for the first movie. Have all the new looks of the characters and special effects to catch a new crowd of people, but keep some of the essentials for the old fans, the people who brought ReBoot this far already. Let's face it, without us liking things about the original series, we would have never been lead to love the show the way we do and basically demand this revival. I want to see that awkward blooming relationship between Dot and Bob, the cunning and independent Mouse, the goofy happy-go-lucky Enzo with his buddy Frisket, the wise and yet sometimes senile Phong, not sure what they're doing for villains in the movie but at least have the crazy sexy seductive Hexadecimal even if she's just there as another sprite, just as long as her character is in their. This is just to name a few.
So:
1. Keep original cast of characters (of course can add more characters)
2. Keep original voice actors as much as possible
3. Strong plot!!!
4. Keep original characters' temperament and way of acting (change the odd subtle thing)
5. Go wild and have really nice appeasing graphics and updated looks
6. Be innovative
7. Keep it ReBoot!

I haven't followed the re-creation of Reboot that much so I don't know everything that is happening.
It looks like they've decided to keep most of the original characters. If they can keep the voice actors I think that will go a long way. Look at Transformers, they were able to keep/get Peter Cullen as the voice of Optimus Prime for the movie and I think that went a long way with the fans in terms of identifying with the character.
The big thing that I always found interesting with Reboot was that it seemed to mature and grow with each season. And they did it without someone yelling "Super Fire Kick of Power" or "Tidal Wave of Rage" (you get what I'm saying here...although I loved the send-up they did on the Power Rangers). It seemed to grow with the audience and the themes were against what was out there in other cartoons.

I agree 100% with you Jester.

Thanks Azalea. I mean, I'm really excited for the movies and in all honesty I wouldn't mind it being redone even for a new crowd of people and make it look even nicer and cooler, but I'm still a die hard fan of the original. ReBoot is one of those shows I grew up with. ReBoot is a major influence on what I want to do with my life.

Just a little tip, it might help if you look into Blender. It's a free 3D rendering program, which could give you the tools you need to impress the bigwigs at Rainmaker.

I agree 100% I has to have all the elements we know and love.
ReBoot has action and isn't afraid to have comedy throughout during the action. We need the characters to be right and some essence of the original plots are necessicary.
I mainly want to see the characters done right. The redesigns sound nice because the technological advancement did wonders between season 2 and 3. I do hope the characters don't change too drastically or look too different.
I think the advanced technology will be great to see since I have confidence that it will be for the best.

I couldn't agree more with the points you made, Jester.
The film has to appeal to both new and old fans. Personally the voice actors are an absolute MUST! and keeping the characters, and not killing anyone off at the end. And bring back Hex. She's sexy and creepy at the same time. Can you get a better combination?
It's really sad that the voice actor of Megabyte passed away, I thought he really made the character his own. Anyone who does it will be good, but it just won't be the same.

It would be nice to see Hex again, but I hope that they don't change the character's appearances too much. If they keep the basic structure of the characters (such as skin color, hair, and build), I think I could let them get by with it. I don't think the movie would be as appealing if the characters all had the same skin color (even if it was an interesting color like blue), the variety in it is what made the show interesting.
If they do bring Hex back though, they'll have to be careful with her since her appearance and personality has the potential to scare children, which is something that I don't think they would want. They'll have to be the most careful with her since they don't want frighten the kids, but at the same time, keep her in character and make her look pretty much the same so that fans won't be withering in pain. Good luck with that.
