Professor WhizzyWig here, writer of the Arrival pitch. Before we get down to doing the V2, I figured I would share some of my notes from the workbook I used to create Arrival. Here's an entry on Corrupted Programs, a concept that didn't make it into the final pitch (because there wasn't room). Many of the concepts I mention in here have changed (aliens, "other Nets," etc). Don't get hung up on them. :)

CORRUPTED PROGRAMS

When sprites manage to slip by the upload portal (just as the heroes did using the NullFire) Gnosis constantly works to delete them. If he cannot achieve deletion, Gnosis captures them, imprisons them, and reprograms them. Bob and the heroes refer to these unfortunate sprites as Corrupted Programs.

Corrupted Programs are essentially sprites that have "gone bad." In addition to brainwashing them into recognizing Gnosis as their leader, Gnosis uses the Corrupted Programs as his own elite mercenary guild. The heroes never know if a new sprite they meet has been corrupted, though usually some small sign unveils them.

Just as with the Avatars, Corrupted Programs are prone to erroneous behaviour. Though Gnosis is a prolific programmer, his codes are rarely "clean," resulting in unstable and buggy programs. Corrupted Programs usually start off with clean codes, so Corrupted Programs' errors don't stand out as strongly as Avatars'.

Many individual Corrupted Programs will become regular enemies of the heroes.

Anyone like the sound of that idea?

Yeah. I can see that working.

Like the idea of Corrupted sprites hunting down the heroes. Maybe one of them could be the comic relief of this new universe (see Hack and/or Slash) and have a problem with say, slowdown at the most inopportune moments.

Works for me, though I find myself fearing for some of the cast in case they end up like that... guess that would make for a 'redemption' plot.

I think this is an idea that will lend a lot longevity to the series. It'll make for a lot more material to write about, having some of these programs show up as recurring enemies. Definitely an avenue you should explore.

A very good idea. You could consider Matrix becoming one of them...oh the anguish and pain^^. But don't do that just 'cos I suggested it, it would ruin the surprise.

I like it. Having an elite group of enemies sounds really cool to me. It adds even more diversity to the threats Gnosis has to offer.

Ooooh, a second set of soldiers for Gnosis' army.

Great stuff! Not a bad idea Raidensbinome, Matrix would be a powerful enemy and I wonder how the others would deal with him. But he should be corrupted only at the end of the third movie, if we want to see some real Matrix too. ;-)

that makes logical sense. Good job, I'm just waiting for your repitch to tell ya the truth. Let's see how you can fix it up lol =)

I like it, but it sounds a little too much like Daemon. If you can find a way to differentiate it then it would work out just fine.
