I've always been a fan of MMORPG's and if you think about it, ReBoot has the potential to be turned into a great MMO. It provides diversification through character customization, class system, and factions.
As with World of Warcraft, there could be waring factions (Guardians and Viruses), and then within each faction you choose a system to start in, and finally there could classes such as hacker like Mouse, web surfer like Surfer, tactics specific character like Dot, as well as faction specific classes, Guardians and Viruses.
For leveling system, gamecubes are the perfect instance style dungeon. A party could go in, ReBoot, kill sprites, and kill a boss (The User) at the end.
Also, travel would be an important part of the game because in the story there are hundreds of systems, not including the web.
This was just something that I was thinking about today, and I would like to know if anyone else agrees with me and if you have any other ideas on how it could work?

you sir have delved into my mind and pulled out my exact thoughts right to a T. the only thing i found hard to balance were viral powers in comparison to sprite powers. but i agree that the epic game would be epic

True. I figured Guardians and Viruses would be like caster type characters with limited weapons, while the sprites would have powerful weapons and team based bonuses.

I'll take 10!
Even a decent ReBoot game would be cool.

Ok, but how would you account for game-sprites that might piggy back on other sprites - like Andrai did? Would that be a feature in the game?
Then there are the software pirates, like Captain Capacitor. Wouldn't he be more of a third faction (including hackers)? It would be Guardians, Viruses and Pirates/Hackers.
As for weapons, I don't think that would be too much of a problem. I think sprites would be able to upgrade with whatever energy credits they get. For example, Enzo would start off with a zip board. But when he saves enough money, he can trade it in for a flying scooter - like the episode Bad Bob. Something like that.
The game has potential. It would just need a lot of detailed work. That's all. Oh, and it has to be based off the original show. Not the upcoming remake.

First off, there of course will be some things that probably would not work for an actual game. Such as the game sprites leaving the games (like Andria). Usually MMORPG's have a beginning area for early leveling and becoming familiar with the game mechanics. That may work for sprites if they level inside the game then have a quest to be brought out.
Second on the factions issue, yes there are a lot of neutral characters in the show. However, for the game what could happen is that hackers, pirates, and other non-guardian sprites are put onto either side, Viruses and Guardians (think horde and alliance character creation in WoW). Also, like the paladins and shamans in WoW, Guardian and Virus classes would be faction specific (for obvious reasons).
Lastly, it totally could go along with the original show by having patches act like episodic challenges and dungeons.
I really wish a game like this existed..... one can only hope.
Please wait ...

This would be an amazing idea. Game Sprites would probably just be AI enemies, except for a few who might be regular NPCs. It would be cool, but each game would have radically different sprites. Some Game Sprites are relatively "normal" like Andraia, while others might be the zombies you see in that Evil Dead game, or Pokemon, or those spider things from The Tiff, or the carrots from "Wizards, Warriors, and a Word from our Sponsor." Game Sprites would just be enemies, along with ABCs (if you're a bad guy), or CPUs (if you're a good guy), and maybe Web Creatures (while you're in the Web).
Different systems could be different maps, with the Web maybe acting as a way to link them (though you can use Portals as well), and Games would be like Dungeons. You could have characters be Guardians, Viruses, Renegades, Pirates, Codemasters, Web Riders, and maybe certain types of Game Sprites. Maybe hackers and Web Surfers as well, though I don't know exactly what they would do.

This would be a killer game I for one would play it I've played many MMO's from The Matrix Online to WoW and a ReBoot one would blow them away to me. Seeing as how the game cubes could be anything and everything it would always be interesting and fresh.

It would need more depth than WoW's puddle of an excuse for character customization... Something on the order of the original SWG would be awesome, but a monumental/costly task. A middle-ground between the two would be most desirable for a game to be produces in a quick manner with both simplicity and depth that someone like I would desire....
Most of the dev. time (and dev. money for that matter) goes into animations and just "painting" the game world. This might not be too big an issue for a reboot MMO since the graphics aren't insanely heavy on texture detail and realism and the like. That's not to say they're bad or anything. They're far from horrible. Especially the last two seasons, both of which displayed great animations for the characters and an increase in overall detail.
I suppose my point is that given the art style that developers would be working with the task would be easier than other projects. As for features; some to start, most for later release would be wise.
