So for those of you who don't know Tron is coming out.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AwvuirSEAA
What does that mean for ReBoot? It means that not only will it have competition but that it is imperative that the ReBoot movies are done right. The very last thing we need is for someone to come out of the movie theaters and say "That was like Tron."
Rainmaker, ReBoot is not Tron. Nor should it be turned into something like it. It is true that there are similarities, but what made ReBoot better than Tron was how it approached the idea of a world inside the computer.
With Tron you knew mainly because it looked like you were in the Computer. With Mainframe, you knew because of the lingo, their government, clothing looks, and environment.
For example bringing back Enzo was a huge example of how the computer ran. Matrix forgot to change his icon, so the system saved him as another file. After the restart there was no Enzo so the computer restored him because the file was missing.
Another example was in season three episode Seven. Matrix said it was impossible that Mainframe was converted to Gamesprite mode because it was firmware.
Stuff like Search Engines, The Web, The Net, viruses, were what made ReBoot so great. Also the creativity that went into molding their world.
This is what made ReBoot interesting. It was about a world that obeyed the laws of the computer and technology but at the same time was creative about it and went as far as it went in that direction.
That is what Tron lacks.
And if you think new fans won't understand it, then you are wrong. Middle Schoolers and Junior high kids are learning about technology. They are using powerpoint to present their work. If a character in the ReBoot movies mentioned scans or flash drives the audience will understand what is going on.
On Tron. Disney is staying faithful to the world and it's aspects to please the fans. At the same time it appeals to new fans.
ReBoot or the idea was interesting. Even though at the time I saw season three, and didn't know all the computer terms, I got the gist of it when certain objects were talked about.
ROM = Rum
I/O shots = alcohol
ASCII, bitmap and so on I figured out. When I did learn Computer terms and what the words meant in ReBoot jargon, I was floored. It made so much sense.
I think this is also the reason why the Comic didn't do so well. There wasn't enough Jargon in it.
A good idea would be to look up Webopedia or talk to your programmers. This could help you to get ideas.
But please don't make ReBoot Tron.

Wow. That trailer for Tron was impressive. And when it comes out in 3D, it will be more impressive.
I don't think that ReBoot will be Tron 2. Look at it this way. There are several war movies out there. But even though they have the same war theme, they don't have the same storyline. Or even sci-fi movies. Star Wars and Star Trek both take place in outer space, but they're completely different movies.
I wouldn't be too worried about Tron. That movie was about a computer program that went corrupt and how humans let that happen. It's possible that Tron could be more like ReBoot than it's predecessor. But we'll just have to wait for another ReBoot trailer to see what happens.

I think people will associate Tron and ReBoot regardless of content. The fact that they're both sci-fi/computer based. I'm agreeing with Anomolie on this one. If anything, Tron would seem to be more like ReBoot.

I don't ReBoot to be portrayed like Tron is what I am saying. I don't think there was much heart to it honestly

tron and ReBoot are nothing alike tron is a virtual world or game and ReBoot is the life of software running on hardware

I meant graphics wise and how the world is portrayed in neon lights and graphics. The trailer brought to mind Tron.
I just don't want people to say ReBoot is like Tron except it has neon colored people.

I see where you're coming from. But now that I think about it, Tron is a live-action movie with CGI effects. Reboot is completely computerized, no live-action. So I think people will see the difference.
Then again, I just saw Avatar The Last Airbender. What a horrible movie. No amount of CGI effects could have saved that movie. Live-action or not, that movie NEEDED a good script and that's not what it got. I have no doubts that Reboot will be a better movie than Airbender.

I hope it is. What Avatar the Last Airbender movie showed that even if the televison show has a huge fanbase, if the movie is crappy there is nothing to save it.
It also shows if the fanbase doesn't the idea or is not pleased with the finish product, the movie's success will be a failure.

I hope ReBoot spoofs Tron, light cycles in a mianframe game would be pixelatious!

Tron is people oriented and ReBoot is Geometry base. I would not compare the 2.
Off hand I would say Tron is totaly human based and mind frame with an artificial background.
Reboot's mined frame is that of AI.
